During protein synthesis, the ribosome orchestrates the deciphering and interpretation of genetic information according to the universal rules of the genetic code. This reading step is carried out thanks to the specific interaction between the codons on the messenger RNA (mRNA) and the anticodons of the transfer RNAs (tRNA).
In an article published in Nucleic Acids Research, researchers in the laboratory have deciphered the fundamental rules of decoding using microfluidic chips. The results obtained explain the different distribution of tRNA genes in eukaryotes and prokaryotes.
