On December 8, 2020 our colleague Neocles Leontis disappeared in a tragic car accident. Specialist in nucleic acids and more particularly RNA, Professor Leontis was teaching at Bowling Green State University (Ohio, USA). A regular guest at the IBMC where he had spent a sabbatical year, he was a close collaborator of Professor Eric Westhof (RNA). Together they established a nomenclature of base pairing in RNA (Leontis and Westhof, RNA, 2001). Eric Westhof and three colleagues pay tribute to him in an article published on January 15 in RNA.
